Installing the New Solar System 2019

Image
UPDATING THE SOLAR SYSTEM It was important for us to update our solar system when we settled in.  We needed a ditch to run cables to the new solar panels on the shed roof, and also to run power to the shed. So, Graham got to work with the tools he had.   A crowbar, shovel and rake.   It was gruelling work. Once the prep work was one, Ken Greaves from Omni came to install our new Alpha ESS System We replaced and increased the old solar panels on the house with 10 new ones,  and installed 9 panels onto the shed roof.   Graham was very happy! Our new system NOTE:  We did upgrade our inverter to a totally off grid model,  and added 2 more batteries after a few years.  We are still very happy!!

Under the Sea Family Tree for Izzy

Image
Our youngest granddaughter Isobel Isla (Izzy) arrived in March 2022 and so another family tree blanket project began.   It always surprises me where inspiration for projects comes from.   This time leafy kelp was what caught my attention so it became an underwater family tree. Under the Sea Family Tree for Izzy I started with the kelp, then tried my hand at making some fun underwater characters Embroidered family names on Laying it out Then fiddled with who and what went where... Completed I think Izzy Approved

Replacing the Fence

Image
The yard fencing was tired and needed replacing.  Time for Graham to work his magic.  His vision... log posts and a new shape to the yard. After drawing up plans, Graham ordered the supplies, and hired Tony Ingram to dig the post holes (as we live in limestone country) and bring fresh soil for the new orchard area. He put the new fence wire up in sections, leaving the old fence up while he placed the posts and then took the old fence down after the new wire was strung. Once the fence was done, it was time to start of the orchard Building up retaining walls for the new mini orchard  and then filling it with new soil.  Adding branches for a decorative wind break, which the birds love! Then added some trees Rember before... He brought in more road surface to tidy up the area around the water tanks Transforming this... By creating a path around the the permimiter. And making a natural garden around the tanks The path follows the new footprint witht the tanks outside And ...

Graham and Julie’s Camping Adventure The Flinders Ranges - Part 1 - Wilpena Pound

Image
April 2024 - Finally, our first real holiday since moving to Kangaroo Island.  A camping trip in our 'new to us' caravan, affectionately known as “The Geist” (Which means free spirit, and we say it with an Arnold Schwarzenegger accent as it is European.)   When our nephew Callan and his partner Melinda heard we’d decided on the Flinders Ranges, they planned to join us. We’ve always enjoyed their company when visiting, but had no idea how much fun and laughter we would enjoy with them on this trip.  We were starting at the  Wilpena Pound Resort  on Adnyamathanha Country. Wilpena Pound or Ikara (meeting place) is of cultural and spiritual significance to the Adnyamathanha people, who have lived here for 15,000 years. I’ll put in links where I can for those who want to see more about the spots we’ve visited.  Although from above it looks like a crater, it’s actually a natural amphitheatre, and was called a “pound” as the shape lent itself to naturally con...
